2020 Scholarship Winner — Gavin Myers
In alignment with Corey’s character and community impact, and made possible by the generous contributions of family, friends, and members of the local community, the fourth annual Hoody Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Lakota East Senior, Gavin Myers.
Gavin, son of Keri and Scott Myers, is an impressive student athlete who exhibits the motivation and perspective of a natural born leader. His ability to overcome personal challenges and inspire those around him is evident in the academic, athletic, and philanthropic successes he has achieved as a young man.
Gavin has been described as someone who “possesses a compassionate, friendly, demeanor and his dedication to taking on new endeavors signify his extraordinary character.” Gavin’s drive and infectious optimism are reminiscent of the relentless determination and confidence that MSG. Corey Hood exhibited
throughout his lifetime.
Gavin will be a freshman this fall at Kentucky Wesleyan College, where he plans to major in Political Science and Criminal Justice and will continue his athletic career as a member of the Panther’s football team. After graduation, Gavin plans on following in his father’s footsteps by enlisting in the Navy, with the ultimate goal of one day becoming a Navy SEAL. Following his military career, Gavin intends to continue serving his community by entering into local law enforcement.

“Before applying to this scholarship, I wanted to do some research and see just who Corey Hood was. I read a lot of touching articles about him. I saw what an impact he had on and off the field. Corey loved his family, football, the military and his country. It would be an honor to receive a scholarship that honors and remembers a hero like Corey.”
