The Selection Committee of the scholarship is comprised of Hood’s family and friends that grew up with him in West Chester, Ohio. Even though he traveled all over the world, Corey would always tell people how great West Chester is, he loved his hometown and school. He would be proud to know that his fund is helping someone from Lakota take the next step in their life. The amount of the scholarship will be $7,500.00 and applicants will be notified in writing whether or not they receive an award. Checks are made payable to the schools’ financial aid office and will be sent directly to the applicant’s selected school.
The Hoody Memorial Fund was established in 2016 in memory of Master Sergeant Corey Hood. The Hoody Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Lakota student who possesses the same positive qualities that Hood exhibited throughout his life – a strong will, a desire to succeed, and “a little bit of grit.”
Hood was a proud Lakota West graduate who played football and wrestling. Both mentally and physically, he was a tough athlete with a lot of heart and energy. After graduating, Hood enlisted in the Army and reported to boot camp just months before 9/11/2001. Serving five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan with the 82nd & 101st Airborne and the 25th Infantry Division, Hood earned numerous awards, including two Bronze Stars. He was selected to The US Army Golden Knights, the US Army’s elite parachute team, in 2014.
Our goal is to create a fund exceeding $100,000 by 9/1/2021, the five-year anniversary of the Mission, allowing the Fund’s capital to yield contributions for years to come. We also want to expand our goals to honor Corey Hood’s name.Apply Today
